Poker In Canada
The online poker room Poker In Canada has closed it's virtual doors.
Part of the Action Gaming network, PokerInCanada.com was merged into TigerGaming, another poker room on the same network. No player balances were harmed in this merger.
The closure of this Canadian focussed online poker room does not reflect badly on the popularity of online poker amongst Canadian players. Instead, it is a reflection of the tough economic times that we are living in.
Canadians still have a lot of choice when it comes to poker sites that they can pick from, thankfully, and there are few sites that specifically exclude players from Canada right now. The only one that comes to mind that does not welcome Canadians is the new US poker site, Bovada, which is the room that American players were migrated to when Bodog stopped accepting them. Bovada is a US only poker room, so it's not just Canadians that are not allowed to play poker there. It is relatively easy to find a Canadian friendly online casino too.
In fact, Canadian casino players have it pretty good right now, with a long list of online sites where they are more than welcome to play. Hopefully this will continue and we won't see any of the upset that other countries have had recently.

Seizure of US Poker Sites
The recent seizure by the FBI of some of the top US poker sites has caused a bit of a panic in the online poker world. Canadian players should know that while there may be a few problems for them right now, this only affects US players long term.
The poker rooms affected are Poker Stars, FullTilt Poker, Absolute Poker and UltimateBet.
Those of you non-Americans that are experiencing problems with these sites should know that this is because of the problems involved in changing to new web addresses. While no convictions have been handed down so far, as there has not even been a trial, the US Department of Justice has gone ahead and seized the primary domain names of those four sites, and thereby disrupted their business for all those players where playing poker online is not a criminal offense.
It should also be noted that while the main websites are now controlled by the FBI/DOJ, this does not affect the game servers which are working just fine, and you can log in to your poker client as normal.
The poker rooms are working hard to move their main sites to new web addresses and the new sites for these poker rooms are;
If you have any problems starting your poker software just go to the new site and download the software again. Your existing account login details should work just fine.
There may be delays in processing deposits and cashouts but as of this time we believe that the poker rooms are still in business and will continue processing all transactions as fast as they can. As you can probably understand there will be a heavy demand on transactions and also on the support people for a while until this mess gets sorted out so be patient.
Other US Facing poker rooms have not been affected and the main one that is still taking US players is BODOG POKER. They are very welcoming to Canadian players and have grown in popularity in Canada quite a lot in recent times.
While Poker Stars and Full Tilt have already suspended their US Players - Americans can no longer sit down at any cash table on those two sites - both Absolute Poker and UltimateBet continue to allow Americans to play in their rooms. It is not known at this time how long this will continue.
There has been a distinct lack of statements so far, but as time goes on everyone concerned will most likely make their position clear. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
If you enjoy the thrill of poker, maybe you will also enjoy playing other games at one of many reputable online casinos. This will give you a chance to test your skills at other styles of games to see how good your gambling skills really are.
